The Week of October 24th

This is the last full week of October!! Please remind your first grader the importance of being good listeners and following directions. We have been struggling with this in the classroom lately and need many reminders to work quietly. Some little conversations at home can make a big difference in the classroom. Thanks for your support!! 🙂

Reading

The guided reading book this week is Pumpkin Circle. This is a great informational book about the pumpkin life cycle.

Some groups did bring their guided reading bags home this week. Everyone should be in full swing next week. I hope you are enjoying your child reading with you and loving how much they are growing and learning.

Writing

We are working to make sure we are using capitals at the beginning of sentences, putting spaces between our words and punctuation at the end. We have also started discussing adjectives and how to spice up our writing.

October 31

Students can come to school in costume. We ask that costumes are school appropriate. No weapons and no masks. Due to the 1/2 day we will not have a party. There will be Trick-or-Treating for those students that did not have 4 or more card flips for the month. The parade is scheduled to start at 11:00 and will travel outside as long as the weather cooperates.

Thank you to many of you who have donated candy for the PBIS Trick-or-Treating reward.

Book Orders

Just a reminder I will submit the Scholastic book order this Monday.

Have a super fall weekend!! 🙂

The whole district is working on incorporating the new Math In Focus curriculum. I strive to keep things exciting as possible while meeting the needs of all students. We are working on counting to 120 and writing the numerals as well. A challenge for your child may be writing them backward from 120 to 1. Counting by 2’s or 3’s.
