Weeks of November 20 and November 27-Week 12/13

Next Week-November 20 and 21

There is a full day on Monday and a half-day for students on Tuesday the 21st. Dismissal will be at 11:40. There will not be a guided reading book or a spelling list for next week.

Don’t forget about Job Day on Tuesday…

Week of November 27th

Guided Reading

Our story for the week of the 27th is A Turkey for Thanksgiving by Eve Bunting.

Spelling/Word Work

Our concentration for this week will be the digraphs th and wh. Digraphs and sight words can be tricky so make sure to practice. Most sight words can not be sounded out. That is why they are called sight words.

Writing

We completed our first book and are ready to begin a new one.

Math

We are working on subtraction. We will be finishing up making subtraction stories. If you haven’t already, have your child practice on IXL math.

Raz Kids

On November 8th I sent a mass email with the login for your child to use Raz-Kids at home. In case you missed that the login:lmccallb the password should just be a picture, which should be the rabbit. I did level up some students. When this is done anything your child has already completed is lost. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank You!! 🙂

Have a great weekend!!

Week of November 13-Week 11

Next Week

Guided Reading

Our story for next week is Scarecrow by Cynthia Rylant. This story will help students learn more about visualization and personification. Personification is when objects are given human traits.

Spelling/Word Work

We will be working with our next digraph of ch. Keep up the good work of practicing at home. It does make a difference.

Writing

We are working hard with our personal narratives.

Math

More with subtraction this week. Keep a look out for some information about Khan Academy.

Great Job First Graders!!

Thank you so much for supporting the timeline project!! All the displays were special and fun to share. I hope everyone enjoyed working with your child and sharing a little special time with them.

Thank you to everyone who came to meet with me during the conference days!! I know it is not always easy to take time out of our busy lives but the benefits are well worth it. Hopefully, you left knowing more about your child and the growth they are making in first grade. Like you, I want your child to be their best and succeed. Working as a team and communicating to each other makes it easier to get the job done.

Please remember that the NWEA information you received is just one assessment we use to chart your child’s growth and progress. All first graders will be taking this test again in the winter and spring.

Social Studies-Job Day

As you already know from the Timeline Project, part of the first grade social studies focus is past and present. It is fun to also take a look into the future. In, Junie B. Jones and Her Big Fat Mouth, Junie’s class has a job day at school. The kids have the opportunity in Room 207 to do the same. So on Tuesday, November 21st the boys and girls can dress up for their career choice of the future. Look for the note coming home next week. The kids love to dress up and have a lot of fun.

It is always a good day to be a Bennie Bobcat!! Have a great weekend!! 🙂

Week of November 6-Week 10

This is a great unit for spelling. Students will learn more about the digraph sh. The sight words are tricky this week. Be careful.
