Thank You Bennie PTA!!

Thank you so much to the Bennie PTA for the milk and cookie treat this afternoon!! Our class earned the reward because we had the most  new PTA memberships. The PTA is always looking for new members and volunteers. They usually meet the first Thursday of the month in the Bennie cafeteria. Everyone is very welcoming and would love to hear your ideas.

HAVE AN AWESOME WEEKEND!! 🙂

Week of October 9-Week 6

Next Week

Guided Reading

The guided reading story next week is Alexander  and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst. We will talk more about visualizing, making a personal connection to the story and problem and solution.

Everyone should have brought guided reading bags home this week. These books are the level your child is currently reading at. It is important to make the time to read each day. If the books at home are too hard, please share the reading with your child. The time you make reading aloud to your first grader makes great memories and definitely impacts their success. If you look at the chart below, you will see that the more a child reads, the more success they will experience.

Spelling/Word Work

The focus this week is short vowel sound e.

The word families are:

eg/en/ et/ed

Writing

We are showing a lot of improvement with our writing. Everyone is trying hard at stretching out the words that we are not sure about and adding more details to our writing pieces. 🙂

Math

We are working on finishing up number bonds and transitioning to addition. This should take us into chapter 3.

Science

We should be able to complete our unit on the apple tree life-cycle.

Literacy Walk

Our walk for literacy is coming up this Thursday. Look for more information to come home this week.

Have an awesome weekend!!
